The Ivory Studio, a photography and film studio in Cascais
The Ivory Studio is a luxury real estate photography and film studio based in Cascais, serving the Portuguese Riviera. It is led by Julian Strauss, photographer and filmmaker, who photographs every commission himself.
The studio works with agencies, developers and owners of residences from around €1M, between Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra, and in Comporta on request.
The studio
Every commission is conceived as a single production and led by one eye, start to finish. Editorial stills, the twilight hour, aerial perspective, and - where the property calls for it - film that lets a buyer walk through before they arrive.
The studio takes on a limited number of residences each month. It is the only way to hold the standard, and it is why we are selective about the homes we accept.
Julian Strauss
Julian Strauss is a photographer and filmmaker based in Cascais, with a background in luxury hospitality and travel imagery. He plans, photographs, films and edits each commission, so the agent or owner deals with the same person from the first call to the final gallery.
Approach
We do not photograph listings. We compose portraits of residences: fewer frames, chosen carefully, in the light that suits each room. Verticals straight, colour true, nothing added that the house does not have.
Film is made with the same restraint - slow movement, long frames, and an order that follows how a buyer would discover the house.
Background
The studio grew out of image-making for luxury hospitality and travel - among them Belmond's Mount Nelson and Black Tomato - where the brief was never simply to document a place, but to make people long for it. We bring the same discipline to the homes of the Portuguese Riviera.

Cascais, Estoril, Quinta da Marinha, Guincho, Sintra and the Lisbon coast. Comporta and the Algarve on request.
