Cascais

Luxury property photography and film in Cascais

The Ivory Studio is based in Cascais and photographs villas, town houses and apartments across the municipality, from the bay to the edge of Guincho. Commissions start from €650 for photography and from €1,600 with film.

Cascais is the studio's home ground, which makes short-notice shoots and a second evening for twilight easier to arrange.

Architecture

Cascais holds several centuries of building in a small space. Around the old fishing town and the citadel there are nineteenth-century chalets from the years when the royal court summered here, many with tiled façades, turrets and deep verandas.

Further out, in neighbourhoods such as Birre, Areia and the hills towards Quinta da Bicuda, the typical commission is a contemporary villa: white render or limestone, flat roofs, large sliding glass and a pool on the main axis of the house.

Light

The town faces south over a sheltered bay, so interiors facing the water receive light for most of the day and the evening sky over the sea holds colour well. West of the town the coast turns to face the open Atlantic, and the light becomes harder and brighter, with sunsets over the ocean.

Summer afternoons bring the nortada, a steady north wind, which can make pool surfaces restless. We often photograph exteriors in the morning or after the wind drops in the evening.

Typical properties

Contemporary family villas with gardens and pools; restored chalets near the centre; apartments with terraces and views over the marina and bay; and larger plots on the road towards Guincho and the Sintra hills.

Practical notes

Central streets are narrow and parking is limited in summer, so we plan arrival and equipment access in advance. Parts of the municipality lie within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, where drone flights need particular care and sometimes permission.

For apartments, we ask the building manager in advance about access to roof terraces and shared areas.
